Privacy notice
This notice explains how Bluevale Digital Ltd, trading as 8Job, uses personal information when you use the 8Job website, mobile app and related marketplace services.
1. Who we are
Bluevale Digital Ltd, trading as 8Job, is the controller of the personal information covered by this notice. We are a company registered in England and Wales under company number 17396311 and registered with the Information Commissioner's Office under reference ZC234769. You can check the ICO public register (opens in a new tab).
For privacy questions or requests, email contact@8job.co.uk.
2. Information we use
- Account and profile information: name, email address, authentication details, an age-eligibility attestation and a combined parent or legal-guardian-consent confirmation where the member may be 15 to 17, profile image, biography, skills, service area, availability and business information you provide. Where needed, this may include limited parent, guardian or representative contact and verification information if a payment or legal-verification provider requires it. 8Job does not collect a date or year of birth at account acceptance.
- Marketplace activity: requests, service adverts, applications, offers, orders, calendar entries, messages, reviews, support tickets, safety reports and disputes.
- Location: a town, postcode or service area you enter, listing addresses, and location supplied by your device when you choose to use nearby search.
- Verification information: identity documents, selfies, verification decisions and review notes where you use an identity-check feature.
- Payments: Stripe customer and connected-account identifiers, checkout, payment, refund, dispute, transfer and payout status. Stripe, not 8Job, receives full card and bank-account credentials entered into Stripe's forms.
- Seller reporting information: where the UK digital platform reporting rules apply, a seller's legal name, address, date of birth, tax identification number, country of tax residence, amounts paid or credited, fees and other information required by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC).
- Provider legal status and customer information: whether a provider declares that they act as a trader or a private provider and, for traders, their legal or trading name, business address, business email and other information required for a customer to make or enforce a contract.
- Device and usage information: IP address, browser and device information, session and security logs, push-notification tokens, search activity, listing views and promotion impressions. Post owners can see aggregate views, shares, saves, enquiries, device types, discovery sources and profile towns. These statistics do not show visitor identities or precise locations.
Do not send card, bank-account, identity-document or other sensitive information through 8Job messages.
If you allow location access while browsing, your browser provides a position so 8Job can suggest a nearby town or city. The lookup uses rounded coordinates, does not save those coordinates to your profile, and can always be replaced by typing a location manually.
In the mobile app, choosing Use my current location sends your current latitude and longitude to 8Job to sort or filter nearby requests and services. This is optional, is used only while you use that search feature, and is not saved to your public profile. You can instead search by a town or city.
While you type a UK town, city or postcode, the text is sent to Postcodes.io to return place suggestions. A selected place may be kept in your browser so distance filters can work without publishing an exact address.
We obtain information directly from you, from other members when they interact with or report your account, from your browser or device, and from services you choose to connect, such as Stripe, Google and Apple. Information previously imported from Facebook Pages may remain in profiles and records, but Facebook sign-in and Page synchronisation are no longer available. If you use the website's one-time Page importer, we read the public Facebook Page link you provide and show available business details and images for your review. No Facebook login or ongoing connection is created. Only the fields and images you select and confirm are saved to your profile; selected images are stored by 8Job. Temporary previews expire after ten minutes and may be removed sooner. We may also receive fraud, payment, refund, dispute and verification information from Stripe and other service providers.
3. Why we use information and our lawful bases
- To provide the service and perform our contract with you: creating and securing your account; publishing content you ask us to publish; matching requests and services; enabling messages, applications, offers, orders and chosen payment routes; and providing support.
- For our legitimate interests: preventing fraud and abuse; protecting members and the service; moderating content; resolving reports and disputes; measuring reliability and use; applying the minimum-age and guardian-consent rules; protecting younger members; improving search and recommendations; and keeping proportionate records of transactions and decisions. We balance these interests against your rights and expectations.
- To comply with legal obligations: responding to lawful requests, meeting tax and accounting duties, collecting, checking and reporting seller information where the UK digital platform reporting rules apply, keeping legally required records, and assisting with the prevention and detection of crime.
- With your consent: using device location, sending mobile notifications after you allow them on your device, and using optional third-party connections where consent is required. You can withdraw consent through your device or 8Job settings, or by contacting us. Withdrawal does not affect earlier lawful use.
Email preferences are enabled by default for new accounts. You can turn off optional emails in Settings. New members who have not created a post may receive a weekly reminder, which stops once they post. Reminder and recommendation emails include an unsubscribe link. Existing accounts keep their saved email choices and are excluded from the new first-post reminders.
Account details are needed to create and secure an account. Payment and payout details are needed to use protected payments. Sellers may also be legally required to provide accurate identity and tax details before they can receive payments through the platform. If required information is not provided, the relevant account, listing, order, payment or payout feature may be unavailable.
Our first-party operational analytics records recognised page names, last-seen times and a pseudonymous browser identifier to measure daily visitors and help administrators understand site activity. Signed-in activity can be associated with your account. We do not record typed form contents, message contents, URL query strings or private order and conversation identifiers in these page observations. Daily visitor figures count browsers, not necessarily individual people. Weekly reports also measure onward browsing and account creation linked to a tracked browser, respecting Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control.
When you use device location for nearby results and permission remains granted, a recently detected approximate town may appear in administrator visitor analytics. These analytics do not store your coordinates or address. Broad device and browser families may also be shown; exact models and browser versions are not retained for this report. Browser privacy opt-out signals suppress these details. We do not request a new position solely for analytics or infer your location from your IP address.
6. Retention, deletion and security
We keep information only for as long as it is reasonably needed for the purposes described above. We decide the period by considering whether an account or order is active, applicable limitation periods, safety and fraud risks, open reports or disputes, and tax, accounting and other legal record-keeping duties. When information is no longer needed, we delete or anonymise it.
- Account, profile and active marketplace information is normally kept while the account or related work remains active, then deleted or anonymised subject to the exceptions below.
- Company accounting and payment records are normally kept for six years from the end of the company financial year to which they relate, or longer where HMRC or another legal requirement applies.
- Records collected and checked under the UK digital platform reporting rules, including submitted report records, are kept for five years after the end of the relevant reportable period.
- Reports, disputes, safety records and support correspondence are kept for the period reasonably needed to resolve the matter, protect members, prevent repeat abuse and establish, exercise or defend legal claims. We review the need to keep closed-case records.
Identity-document and selfie images are restricted to authorised reviewers and are deleted after the verification review no longer requires them. We may retain the decision, review timing and a limited administrative record while the account remains active or where a safety or legal reason requires it.
When an eligible member deletes their account, 8Job removes the sign-in account, anonymises the public profile, cancels open listings and removes current availability, precise listing locations, profile and job media, calendar items, notifications and verification records. Completed-job records, messages, reviews, reports, disputes and payment or accounting records may be retained for safety, fraud prevention, accounting or legal obligations. Administrators and members participating in active or disputed jobs cannot delete their account until the blocking responsibilities are resolved.
You can start deletion from Settings → Delete account in 8Job. If you cannot access your account, use our account deletion page.
We use access controls, encryption in transit, restricted administrative access, logging, backups and service monitoring. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, so please use a unique password and tell us promptly if you suspect misuse.
7. Your UK data rights
Depending on the circumstances, you may have rights to access, correct, erase, restrict, object to or port personal information, and not to be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing that produces legal or similarly significant effects. 8Job does not currently use solely automated decision-making of that kind.
You may object at any time to direct marketing and may also object to processing based on our legitimate interests. Email contact@8job.co.uk to exercise a right. We may need information to verify your identity and will respond within the period required by law.
You can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint. Please contact us first if you are comfortable doing so, as we would like the opportunity to resolve your concern.
8. Children
People under 15 cannot create an 8Job account or arrange work through 8Job. Members aged 15 to 17 need the express consent of a parent or legal guardian. If you believe a person under 15 has created an account, or a younger member may be at risk or using 8Job without the required consent, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action. Protected provider payment and payout features remain unavailable to a member under 18 unless Stripe reports the connected account fully eligible, including any parent, guardian or representative requirement.
Interactive maps
When you choose to load the Areas map, your browser requests map tiles from OpenStreetMap. This shares your IP address, browser information, the 8Job site origin and the map tiles being viewed with that service. We do not send account details or exact listing addresses to it. Map pins use approximate listing areas. You can browse towns and listings without loading the map. See the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy.
9. Changes to this notice
We may update this notice when the service or law changes. We will publish the new version here and, where a change materially affects you, provide a prominent notice or direct notification.
